What is EVO ICL?

EVO ICL, also called an Implantable Collamer® Lens, is a refractive implant to correct common vision issues like myopia (nearsightedness) with or without astigmatism. Unlike some other vision correction options, the EVO ICL is an additive technology that corrects vision without the removal of any corneal tissue. The EVO ICL is meant to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and contacts and unlike most permanent refractive solutions, EVO ICL is removable by your doctor, for added peace of mind.

EVO ICL is made from a high-technology polymer called collamer. During the minimally invasive procedure, the EVO ICL is surgically placed in your eyes, either in the back of your iris or between your cornea and iris. This procedure can be done at your eye doctor’s office and usually takes about 20-30 minutes to complete. The EVO ICL works similarly to a contact lens, except it’s a permanent part of your eye.

You can sleep, swim, or bathe with your EVO ICL lenses and have clear vision. At Laurel Eye Clinic, we have 10 convenient locations you can choose from to have your procedure.

EVO ICL Procedure – What to Expect

EVO ICL is made of biocompatible Collamer material that works in harmony with your eye. Your eye doctor will create a small opening in your cornea that will be used to insert and position the EVO ICL. For most patients, the procedure is virtually painless with numbing drops and it typically takes less than 20 – 30 minutes. Patients typically experience improved vision right away and a quick recovery time.

EVO ICL

Have you recently found out that you’re not a good candidate for LASIK, but you still want to experience visual freedom from glasses and contact lenses? You may be a good fit for something called the EVO ICL.

The eye surgeons at Laurel Eye Clinic are now offering this to our patients looking for a vision correction procedure who may not be right for LASIK, or those that may not be comfortable with the idea of permanently correcting their vision.

I have nearsightedness and my eye doctor says LASIK isn’t right for me, do I have any other options?

One of the best options for correcting nearsightedness is a new state-of-the-art technology called the EVO ICL. The EVO ICL is an implantable collamer lens. The experienced eye surgeons at Laurel Eye Clinic are qualified to perform this refractive procedure that implants a thin lens in your eye and corrects nearsightedness.

What can I expect if I get the EVO ICL?

It may take a few days after receiving your EVO ICL for your vision to stabilize completely. You should be able to resume your normal daily routines in less than a week.

Though the EVO ICL is approved to correct nearsightedness, it does not correct farsightedness, so you may still need to use reading glasses for seeing up close. It can also treat mild astigmatism.

How do I know if the EVO ICL is right for me?

As with any procedure, you need to book an appointment at Laurel Eye Clinic, where your eye doctor will discuss your medical history and perform an eye exam to check the severity of your nearsightedness. The EVO ICL is best for patients with moderate to severe nearsightedness who want a long-term solution but does not work as well for patients who have serious myopia.

Some patients, including those with thin corneas, large pupils, or chronic dry eye, may not be good candidates for the EVO ICL. If that is the case, your eye doctor will discuss other treatment options with you.

How does the EVO ICL work?

The implantable collamer lens (ICL) works without removing the natural lens of the eye. It works with the lens of the eye and cornea to allow light rays to better focus on or near the retina, reducing or eliminating your nearsightedness.

Another benefit of the EVO ICL is that collamer helps filter out ultraviolet light, giving extra protection to your eyes. It’s also biocompatible with your eyes, meaning the EVO ICL will not cause dry eyes.

What if I change my mind later?

Another benefit of using the EVO ICL is you can have it removed later. They are not a permanent form of vision correction like LASIK.

But most patients report high satisfaction with their EVO ICL. Unlike contact lenses, the EVO ICL is maintenance-free and will not require you to buy lens solutions and replacements.

What are my next steps?

The only way to find out if the EVO ICL could be right for you is to see your eye doctor. Schedule an appointment at Laurel Eye Clinic in Duncansville, PA, now and begin your journey to visual freedom!
