Phototherapeutic Keratectomy (PTK)

A surgical procedure that is performed on the cornea due to functional deficit secondary to various corneal dystrophies (EBMD, recurrent erosion, etc.). The patient is centered beneath the excimer laser and the epithelium is removed in a manual fashion. The laser is then used to remove the pathological tissue as well as smooth the ocular surface.
