Astigmatism Keratotomy (AK)
A surgical procedure that is used to correct moderate cases of astigmatism. The AK procedure is often performed at the same time as other refractive procedures for correcting nearsightedness or farsightedness. The incisions are made in the outer periphery of the cornea in order to change the shape to the desired curvature needed to correct the refractive problem. This procedure is performed by the use of a diamond blade and is completely surgeon driven.
