Proper Fit

The key components to look for when getting the proper fit include:

  1. Make sure your eye is centered or close to center in the frame. This will help your lenses come out thinner. The frame should follow the line of your eyebrows and not be noticeably higher or lower than your brow line.

  2. Assess the size of your bridge to determine if a wide or narrow bridge is needed. Larger noses need a wider bridge. A properly fitted bridge will allow the frame to sit close to your face without touching. If the bridge is too narrow it will force the frame up and keep the wearer from looking through the center of the lens. If you have a narrow nose you need a small bridge. If the bridge is too large it will cause the frame to rest on your face and leave a noticeable mark or indent.

  3. Check the width of the frame. There should be just slight clearance between the temples and sides of your head. If a frame is too wide it will be sloppy and have a tendency to slide off your face. You will know a frame is too narrow if the temples bow out and leave indents on the sides of your face.

  4. Check the temple length. The temple should be long enough to create a nice 45 degree bend at the top of your ear. If a temple is too long many times it can be cut to an appropriate length. However, if a temple is too short it can create unwanted tilt and cause the frame to slide, similar to when the temples are too long.

  5. The size and weight of your glasses should be somewhat proportionate to the size and weight of your body.

Always take into consideration the frame that will work best with your prescription. Allow enough room for bifocals or progressive lenses when necessary and softer shapes for high prescriptions.
