NICHAMIN RECIPIENT OF 2008 STORZ INNOVATORS AWARD

The Charles R. Storz Innovators Award has been developed to recognize those individuals who, through their contributions to Storz Instruments and Bausch & Lomb, have significantly and positively impacted surgical techniques in the quest to advance the art of surgery and provide excellence in patient care. In this tradition of excellence, each annual Innovators Award winner is recognized and honored for their contributions to medicine.

The contributions of Charles Storz to modern day surgery dates back to his early work with the pioneers of microsurgical instrument design and his dedication to making the finest quality handcrafted instrumentation available. Through the years under his leadership, Storz Instruments became the standard by which all other instruments were measured and that tradition of quality, craftsmanship and innovation continues today.

In appreciation for his 20 years of service to ophthalmology and his dedication to continually innovating new instrumentation and new techniques to improve the standard of care in ophthalmic surgical procedures, Louis D. "Skip" Nichamin, MD, was presented with the Storz Crystal Vase. This prestigious award is given to one ophthalmologist each year. The award was made by Bausch & Lomb Surgical to Dr. Nichamin at an event in his honor on November 15, 2008.

As an additional testament to Dr. Nichamin’s dedication and commitment as a gifted eye surgeon, the Laurel Laser & Surgery Center was recently named as a “Center of Excellence” by Bausch & Lomb. Nationally, there are only 15 “Centers of Excellence”. The Laurel Eye Clinic operates 10 offices and 2 state of the art ambulatory surgery centers in Western and Central Pennsylvania.
