Detwiler Receives CRA Certification and Wins Review of Optometry Magazine's "Photo of the Year" Contest

Congratulations to Brian Detwiler Ophthalmic Technician in the Altoona office! Brian recently received his Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA) certificate. Brian also recently entered a ophthalmic photo contest and won “photo of the year”. His photo will be published in the Review of Optometry magazine in the near future.

We at the Laurel Eye Clinic are very proud of Brian and his accomplishments. Below is Brian's response to his Q&A interview.

How long have you worked at LEC? Hired Oct. of 01..so working on 8th year

What certifications have you received since employed at LEC? COA, CRA

You recently submitted a photo for the 2009 Review Photo Contest for the Review of Optometry magazine. How did you hear about the contest and tell us about the photo you submitted? I saw an appeal for photos in the Review of Optometry magazine, and thought I’d give it a try and submit one of my photos. I submitted a photo of ONH edema with a macular star – confirmed “Cat Scratch” by blood work. I also had to submit a 50 word paragraph about the photo.

Congratulations on winning the photo contest. What was your reaction when you found out that you won? When I received the voicemail that I won “photo of the year”, I replied to the editor’s email…”You’ve GOT to be kidding!”

What do you like most about working at the LEC? I really enjoy working with the doctors and my coworkers. I love meeting new patients, and seeing familiar ones. I absolutely love the refractive end of my job – it’s so interesting! I’m most appreciative of the opportunities that are available.
